Fabulous Fall...

We have finally moved into fall, my favorite time of year to garden. The weather is gorgeous, the pests are dying out or going into hibernation, the grass and weeds are slowly dying back. Perfect!

Our fall harvest is much shorter than summer harvest due to the rapid weather change and shortened number of daylight hours. The peak of harvest for fall is October through November.

Despite the shortened season, we'll have lots of great locally grown produce including collards and other greens, lettuces, root crops, and so much more, as well as our usual assortment of value added products like eggs, cheese, bread, jams, jellies and preserves, honey, teas, healthy snacks, peanut brittle, home made soaps, and new items each week as we add more guest vendors through the end of the season.

Summer is Sizzling!

Well the Farmer's Market is definitely finding it's stride. We have had a very good summer this season, even though the heat wave may impact our production a bit.

It is so nice to see so many people making the effort to come out to the market. It's been surprising to see how quickly people have grasped on to the idea of fresh produce versus store produce, and to see how people's tastes have changed.

Last year we couldn't sell kale or other bitter greens to save our lives. Now we sell out rapidly. Fall will bring more of these gorgeous tasty greens as well as some of the best root crops around.

Thank you everyone for helping us make the farmers market a success. I can't wait to see where we go from here!

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

We are now open on Tuesdays, as well as our regular Friday market day. The time and location are the same. 3:00 - 7:00pm at 2515 Dallas Hwy/Marietta Hwy, which is the empty lot at the intersection of Hwy.92/Hwy.120 across from Stars and Strikes.

So summer is here, and one of the coolest things to experience is a trip to your local farmers market. Summer is the time of year when local farmers are bringing fresh produce like summer squash, beans, peas, greens, potatoes, onions, garlic, and of course those market staples like corn, okra, melons and tomatoes, apples and lots of fresh peaches!
